Hepatitis C Awareness and Education in the Arab/Chaldean American Population

Detroit, Mich. – ACC’s Public Health Division will launch the Hepatitis C Public Health Awareness and Education Project funded through Roche Pharmaceutical Corporation. The aim of the project is to educate the adult high-risk Arab/Chaldean ethnic/minority population members with information about Hepatitis C, risk factors, impact in other ethnic minority populations, and detection measures available through appropriate screenings.

The Arab/Chaldean population has been identified as a community that suffers from and is at continued risk for all health disease disparities. The root causes of these disparities is attributed to a lack of health education and screening services, specifically targeted toward this vulnerable ethnic and minority population. Hepatitis C like the impact of Diabetes in ethnic and minority populations often goes undiagnosed. Therefore, screening for Hepatitis C is essential for high-risk individuals within ethnic and minority populations.
