ACC
Awarded IEP Grant for Hepatitis C Awareness
Detroit,
MI -
March 9, 2006 ACC was awarded a
$15,000 independent educational program (IEP) grant from Roche
Laboratories Inc. This IEP grant will compliment ACC’s existing
Hepatitis C Awareness and Education Program by raising awareness
among physicians about Hepatitis C risk factors, the need for
screenings, and treatment options.
ACC’s Public Health
Division launched the Hepatitis C Public Health Awareness and
Education Project funded through Roche Pharmaceutical Corporation.
The aim of the project is to educate the adult high- risk
Arab/Chaldean ethnic/minority population members with information
about Hepatitis C, risk factors, impact in other ethnic minority
populations, and detection measures available through appropriate
screenings.
The
Arab/Chaldean population has been identified as a community that
suffers from and is at continued risk for all health disease
disparities. The root causes of these disparities is attributed to a
lack of health education and screening services, specifically
targeted toward this vulnerable ethnic and minority population.
Hepatitis C like the impact of Diabetes in ethnic and minority
populations often goes undiagnosed. Therefore, screening for
Hepatitis C is essential for high-risk individuals within ethnic and
minority populations.
