Working
Together to Improve Safety
|
|

|

ACC and the
Department of Homeland Security in Lansing are joining their efforts and
resources in a collaboration to better prepare and improve the safety, and
enhance the overall readiness of the Arab/Chaldean-American community in case
of an emergency such as a terrorism attack, hurricanes or tornados, power
outage or blackout, or any emergency which may cause a panic for the
community. To reach our calls, a decision was made to establish the first
Arab/Chaldean-American Advisory Committee which will include members from:
ACC, The Michigan State Police-Department of Homeland Security, the Emergency
Management Division of the Cities of Southfield, Dearborn, and Dearborn
Heights, and should expand to include members from the major cities in
Southeast Michigan which have an Arabic concentration such as: Detroit,
Hamtramck, Livonia, West Bloomfield, Troy, Madison Heights, Oak Park, Warren,
and Sterling Heights.
Goals include:
Preparedness Workshops, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training,
and Promote Preparedness through the Arab-American media, churches, mosques,
community centers, and social clubs.
For more information, or to be involved in this initiative, please contact:

Security Summit Addresses
Community Concerns
|
|

|
Concerned citizens
gathered at the Arab American and Chaldean Council's (ACC) Youth Center
and Recreation July 13 to hear what law enforcement officials had to say
about crime statistics, trends and awareness in the Detroit area.
Initiated by ACC's Seven Mile Task Force and the Seven Mile Steering
Committee, the Town Hall Meeting and Security Summit was
aimed at educating Detroit
residents about crime facts in the area. Presentations were made by Detroit
Police Department's Assistant Chief Robert Dunlap, Assistant Chief Ralph
Godbee and Deputy Chief Chester Logan to provide law enforcement's take on
crime statistics and their possible solutions.
First
Lieutenant Harold Love and Sgt. Kevin Sweeney of the Michigan State Police
Emergency Management Division participated in the presentation by providing
insight on the workings of homeland security issues and encourage residents
to educate themselves on steps to prepare for and respond to emergencies
including natural disasters and terrorist attacks.
