SWEET Festival to Entertain the Community

Saturday, May 13th SWEET (Sensational Women Emerging and Enduring Together) will hold its annual community festival and picnic in the park at Memorial Park in Hamtramck from 9am to 5pm. ACC’s Dr. Faiza Faouri, a SWEET member will join in the days festivities by offering ACC gift bags to all visitors and representing ACC’s services and programs to the youth and community of Hamtramck. COME JOIN THE FUN!

2006 Motor City Make Over

Join ACC for the 5th Annual Motor City Makeover on Seven Mile! We are asking ACC staff to donate their time and Seven Mile merchants and community residents to volunteer and help clean-up and beautify Seven Mile!
This year’s bagged litter campaign will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the ACC Youth Center located at 62 W. Seven Mile, Detroit. Registration and continental breakfast will commence at 8:00 a.m. with luncheon provided to volunteers at 12:00 noon. In addition, Certificates of Appreciation will be awarded to the dedicated volunteers for their time and effort in making Seven Mile a clean place to live, work, and play.
To place your name on the volunteer list, please call Jacqueline or Isa at (313) 893-5269. Please bring a rake, shovel or a broom to help in the cleanup.

ACC Scholarship Program

ACC is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2005-2006 school year. Applications are available online and must be recieved no later than August 15, 2006.
ACC’s Scholarship Award Program financially assists graduating high school students as they pursue their education. Scholarships are based on academic excellence and financial need. Applicants must be a high school senior, who has been accepted to college, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and has demonstrated extracurricular/volunteer activities. ACC’s Scholarship Award Program is made possible by ACC Board members as well as private donors.

Supporting ACC Summer Programs

ACC has been selected for the 2006 Free Press Summer Dreams, which is an outreach initiative to provide additional program dollars for agencies. All contributions made to the ACC Youth Summer Basketball Leadership and Mentoring Day Camp Program will be matched dollar for dollar.
The youth will continue thier practice and increase their skills during summer through ACC’s Basketball Leadership and Mentoring Day Camp at the ACC Youth Recreation & Leadership Center. Youth ages 17 and under will participate in a six (6) week basketball day camp from June 19th to July 28th. The camp runs Monday Through Friday from 9am to 2pm. Youth learn techniques, key basketball strategies and life skills, including teamwork, team building, conflict resolution, and anger management, enhanced communication skills, and increased self- esteem.
The program continues to grow each year and is expected to keep children off the streets by providing them with a positive atmosphere and a safe environment. Contributions will help pay for uniforms, equipment, transportation and referee fees, and resheshments for the youth. Money $mart Workshops at ACC

Marygrove College and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Detroit Bank, and Money Smart Advisory Council bring you Money Smart Week, April 22 - 29, 2006.
ACC will be hosting Money Smart for Kids, Thursday, April 27th, from 4:00pm to 5:30pm and Money Smart for Adults, Friday, April 28th, from 4:00pm to 5:30pm at the ACC Youth Center, 62 W Seven Mile Road, 48203. Both workshops are free, open to the puiblic, and no registration is required. Come learn the basics of financial management and banking.
