Strengthening Families

families

ACC's Strengthening Families Program is a research based curriculum created to increase and improve the level of communication between parents and children.

In seven lessons, parents and kids learn important communicating skills that help them begin to "listen" to each other, respect each others opinions and how to work on problems together. Participating youth will learn to appreciate how much their parents do for them and care about them; while having fun doing it!

If you are interested in participating in this program please contact Ann Antone at 248-559-0960 to register.

Creating Healthy Communities

qanum

ACC's Cultural Tapestry Program provided a presentation to seniors at the City of Troy Community Center. Mayada Fakhouri and Ann Antone facilitated the presentation and provided the seniors with information about the Arab culture and a history of the Middle Eastern immigration patterns.

Fostering understanding and mutual cooperation among the diverse ethnic groups is vital for healthy communities. ACC is committed to building healthy communities through cultural awareness.

ACC Discusses Tobacco Use with Elected Officials

argilahAs coordinator of ACC's State Tobacco Prevention Program, Wali Altahif has been responsible for contacting and arranging meetings with state legislators. ACC along with several other organizations make up the Multi-Cultural Network. The major goal of the Multi-Cultural Network is to promote tobacco use awareness and its impact on minorities.

On May 31, 2006 Mr. Altahif brought together several legislators, including Wayne County Commissioner Mo Blackwell, for a presentation on the Arghile (water pipe) and its growing popularity among youth. It is hoped that educating elected officials on this issue will gain their support of regulations that protect the health of our communities.
