Another Successful Makeover

mcm sign2

The slight rain didn’t deter community volunteers who gave their time and effort Saturday, May 13, 2006 to clean-up Seven Mile during the annual 2006 Motor City Makeover. The Motor City Makeover is a bagged litter campaign held in the City of Detroit each Saturday in May. Our dedicated crew of community members, youth, and ACC staff joined in, grabbed their rakes, shovels, and brooms and set off to remove debris and weeds from Seven Mile frontage, behind buildings and sidewalks. Continental breakfast and lunch was provided to participants. After the clean-up, Certificates of Appreciation by Mr. Isa Hasan Project Director, and Ms. Marja Winters, ONCR Director were distributed to the volunteers with sincere thanks to the community at large.

Support Youth, Make Dreams Come True

The Arab American and Chaldean Council (ACC) is preparing for its Summer Basketball Leadership and Mentoring Day Camp, which is scheduled to begin June 19th. Youth ages 17 and under will participate in a six (6) week basketball day camp in which youth will learn basketball techniques and strategies, life skills, including teamwork, team building, conflict resolution, anger management, communication skills and self- esteem enhancement.

With approximately 100 enthusiastic campers who are looking forward to participate in our camp activities, we need your support to achieve our goal of $8,350.00. Donated funds will allow these kids to participate in camp activities and purchase equipment and uniforms. May we count on your help? The Skillman Foundation will match all gifts dollar-to- dollar until our goal is reached.

You can donate online by electronic payment at www.freep.com/summerdreams, or make checks or money orders payable to: Children First, P.O. Box 64702, Detroit, MI 48264. Contributions must be made online or by check written directly from the donor to Children First. Checks written on an agency bank account will not be matched.
